Lawson died in 1957 at his home in Westport, Connecticut, in a house that he referred to as Rabbit Hill, since it had been the setting for his book of the same name. He was 64.

It's a kind book, a gentle book, but not exclusively so (animals had met an unfortunate end, prior to the onset of the story), the characters are nicely delineated, the sense of place is perfect, and it all just works.
